Mission and Identity

The University of Nova Gorica aims to be a research, internationally established university, which will  be recognised as a driving force of social development in the region and in a wider context. With its innovative teaching approaches in both Slovene and English, the university aims to develop teaching excellence at its contemporary study programmes, thereby securing a high level of employability to home and international students.  The university will endorse its motto Scientia vinces (“with knowledge to victory”) by providing a creative environment for researchers, professors and students, thereby enabling opportunities for top achievement results in the cutting-edge fields of science, technology and art.

Infrastructures

The University hosts several laboratories and research centres which are performing state-of-the-art research in several fields ranging from materials science to astrophysics. The laboratories involved in Nanoregion project are:

1. Laboratory for Environmental and Life Sciences (LELS)

2. Laboratory of Organic Matter (LFOS)

3. Materials Research Laboratory (LRM)

4. Laboratory of Quantum Optics (LKO)

Main techniques

Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
SEM is a type of electron microscope that produces images of a sample by scanning the surface with a focused beam of electrons. The electrons interact
Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM)
In a transmission electron microscope (TEM) a beam of electrons is transmitted through a specimen to form an image. Usually the specimen is an ultrath
Thermal Lens Microscopy facility (TLM)
The technique is available at the LELS. TLM is performed with a laser microscope in which the signal-generation mechanism is the thermal lens effect.
Transport measurements facility
The facility allows for accurate transport measurement (I-V curves, gate-dependent, …) at Room Temperature and at cryogenic temperature. The sample pr
LASER lithography facility
A class 100 clean room hosting a laser lithography apparatus is also available. The lithography process allows to pattern parts on a thin film or on t
X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy facility (XPS)
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) is a surface-sensitive quantitative spectroscopic technique based on the photoelectric effect that can identify
